Harry Potter' book sales underperform following J.K. Rowling backlash

 

Harry Potter series of books that are famous among all people are now experiencing poor performance. Some time ago J.K Rowling made a tweet related to women only as biological sex.


On Saturday 6 June, JK Rowling quote tweeted an article with the title: “Opinion: Creating a more equal post-COVID-19 world for people who menstruate.”

Rowling took issue with the phrasing, tweeting: “‘People who menstruate.’ I’m sure there used to be a word for those people. Someone help me out. Wumben? Wimpund? Woomud?”

The tweet sparked criticism, with some users taking issue with Rowling appearing to define women as “people who menstruate”

The tweet will affect the sales of the book series

according to NPD BookScan Harry Potter series sales in America declined by an increase of about 10.9 percent while those not licensed were only 7.7 percent for June.

 

BookScan NPD figures do not account for eBook sales, audio books, or library sales and direct publisher sales, which may have been driven by the recent launch of the Harry Potter At Home hub through WizardingWorld.com and NPD has not commented on Rowling's slowing sales, poor performance arose when the writer Harry Potter was criticized for his statement.
